Bra Sizing

Boudoir Blush prides itself on its fitting service. We recommend that you come in and have a fitting with us, even if you've been recently fitted elsewhere. We will talk you through everything and explain why we've put you in that particular size, which styles are best for you and even recommend brands that seem to work best.

We also recommend that before buying any underwear online you get a proper fitting. If you can come to Boudoir Blush, we can add you to our database which will ease any future purchases.

Please also note that fabrics, brands and styles of underwear will make the fit vary.

We have endeavoured to create a chart that will help you find your bra size. Please understand that this is a rough guide. It is advisable that you let a professional fit you properly.

How To Find Your Back Size

Pass a measuring tape around your underbust. The tape should feel quite snug as fabrics stretch and measuring tapes don’t. Stand in front of a mirror as you do this so you can ensure the measuring tape is horizontal.

A new bra should always be worn on the loosest hook (the 1st hook found when doing your bra up). The bra should feel snug on the loosest and over time the fabric will give and you'll use the middle hook and then the last hook.
When you've used the last hook for a while, it's time for a new bra.

Now you have worked out your back size, it's time to find your cup size. This is a little harder to do.

With your current bra, see whether the bridge (the middle section in between the cups) is sitting nice and flat against your chest. If it is sitting away with a gap underneath, your cups are too small.

Also check whether the underwiring is sitting against your chest nicely and that it's not digging into the side of your breasts (under your armpits). If it is, your cup size is too small.

If you are currently wearing a 36B for example, and you think the wires are digging in, then you might need to go up a cup size, to a 36C.

However, if you also measured around your back and it came out as a 32 back, the cup sizing will not stay as a C.

With cup sizes, when you go down in the back, you automatically go up in the cup. So if you were wearing a 36C, you'll have gone down to a 32DD. (See the highlighted boxes below).

How to Find Your Cup Size

If you suspect your bra is too big, the fabric in the cups will be baggy or you'll have gaping at the top of the cups. Try going down a cup size or two, but always make sure the wiring is NOT digging into the breast tissue.

If the cups are not sitting right and you've definitely got the right cup size, it is more likely that you will need to change the style of the cups rather than the size.

If, for example, you've been trying a balconette bra and there's too much gaping at the top, try a padded plunge and see if that works better.

Maternity and Nursing bras are fitted in a completely different way and should be done with a specialist. Boudoir Blush can help you with any questions you might have.

Even though Boudoir Blush does not specialise in Mastectomy bras, we can definitely try and help you find something that will be comfortable and pretty.
